Finding a balance with dental implants

By July 1, 2019 No Comments

Domingos Mamede – implant surgeon and cosmetic dentist at the Advanced Oral Health Centre in St Ives – is one of many clinicians to have started their journey into dental implants with the PG Cert in Implant Dentistry from Ucer Education. He shares what he thought of the training and support, and how it provided the ideal foundation for a thriving career…

The right path

“Originally from Portugal, I joined an NHS practice when I moved to Manchester. Although I wanted to continue my studies, I was unsure what path to take. After some research into what was available, dental implants became of interest. I therefore took the one-year PG Cert in Implant Dentistry with Ucer Education. It seemed to be the best available at the time and it has only improved further since then.

“I found it very useful to start my journey in dental implantology with such a great mentor as Professor Ucer. He and his team provided an interesting and guided insight into the world of dental implantology. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to advance in this field.

Balancing theory and science

“For any dentist starting out with dental implants, it’s important to first learn the theory and science behind the procedures and to then gain some practical experience. Unfortunately, I think a lot of courses in the UK lack adequate hands-on opportunities. This can leave dentists without the skills or confidence to actually go on and place implants. Not only is this a waste of money, but it also prevents the individual from progressing in their career.

“I believe Ucer Education overcomes this challenge very well by offering a good balance of theory and practical learning. It now enables delegates to start placing implants under supervision in the ICE state-of-the-art facilities. The training is also not biased to one implant system or another, covering a range of solutions and digital technologies. This gives you the flexibility to choose the system that is genuinely best for you in practice.

“Following completion of the year-long course, I was ready to advance. I went on to complete an MSc in Dental Implantology. I really only have very good things to say about Professor Ucer and Ucer Education. Depsite  little structure for professional development in implantology in the UK, Ucer Education provides the skills, support and confidence for individuals to grow in a responsible and very good way.”
